Vogue’s 9th anniversary issue celebrates ‘Beauty in Diversity’ and featured 6 models of different complexions and regional identities. The models on the cover are from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Maldives. Driven and gorgeous, cover girls make for beautiful ambassadors for the subcontinent. Bringing diversity to the ramp. Some of them are lawyers and doctors, and are breaking stereotypes and inspiring others.
Pooja Mor : India
Pooja Mor won regional finals for the Clean & Clear and Ahmedabad’s Times Fresh Face in 2012. She started her modelling career when she was doing engineering from Gujrat. She has made ramp appearances for many of the luxury brands.
Deki Wangmo : Bhutan
Deki Wangmo was doing modelling projects in Bhutan and India for a long time. She participated in Miss Asia last year which gave a big leap to her international career.
Raudha Athif : Maldives
She started her career with an environmental campaign, at the age of 14 with no concern about career. Athif hit gold with her ‘Maldivian Girl With Aqua Blue Eyes’ shoot. After the shoot went viral it eventually helped her to land this Vogue India cover.
Shenelle Rodrigo : Sri Lanka
Rodrigo did her first photo shoot at the age 15. She represented Sri Lanka in the “Supermodel Of South Asia” competition. On TV she starred in the reality show, Making of a Model.
Jannatul Ferdoush Peya Bangladesh
She was born and raised in a conservative Muslim family in a small town. Establish her carrier in modelling was not an easy job for her. Her love for fashion and a chance meeting with a well-known Bangladeshi photographer. This led her to win the Miss Bangladesh contest just after she finished school. In 2010, she bagged her first big campaign with clothing line Aarong.
Varsha Thapa : Nepal
Varsha is the first model from Nepal ever to sign an International Modelling Campaign. She was pursuing with her Hotel Management course from IHM Aurangabad. She got her first break directly into New York Fashion Week.
