I’ve always had requests to share my skin care routine. And although, I try to stick to my routine, I will admit that it can get quite cumbersome. But when you see results, you’re even more determined to keep your head in the game.
The key is to not think of your routine as a daunting task, rather your much deserved me time – twice a day. And trust me, when you witness your skin change and feel fresher, you’re not going to give up.
Without further ado, let’s break this down, shall we?
DOUBLE CLEANSE
If you don’t know what double cleansing is, you haven’t read the previous article, have you?
Quick rundown – Double cleansing entails using an oil cleanser followed by a water based cleanser.
MASK/EXFOLIATE
This isn’t a regular step. You can do this once a week, using products that work well for your skin.
My picks?
The GlamGlow SuperMud Mask. (avoid charcoal masks if you have an event coming up! AT LEAST TWO WEEKS BEFORE)
Kiko Milano Exfoliating Powder.
TONE
Perhaps something that everybody should invest one in their skin care. A good toner is key to healthier, fresher skin. It will also instantly tighten your pores and help restore your skin’s pH levels for a more even skin tone.
My favourite is the Pixi Glow Tonic. I’ve gone through multiple bottles, and I don’t intend to change any time soon. (Unless I get my hands on the Ole Henrisksen Glow2Oh)
SPOT TREATMENT
If you’re prone to pimples, you can apply your choice of cream after toner so it can work it’s magic.
SERUM
Due to smaller sized molecules, serums are absorbed into a much deeper level. This property is ideal if you’re looking to target a specific skin issue.
You can also use essences, which are serums of a more watery consistency.
My pick – Laneige Water Bank Hydro Essence.
EYE CREAM
To banish those annoying under eye issues, now is the time to pat in your eye cream. Brighten under eyes, reduce any inflammation, and add an extra hit of moisture.
The Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado gets our vote!
MOISTURISER
I bet all this time, you were simply washing that face if yours and jumping into this step, eh? Now you know there’s a bunch of other things in between.
The right moisturizer will hydrate, replenish, restore your skin’s pH levels, and nourish and repair any issues like dry, flaky skin.
But it’s also essential that you choose one with the right formula and ingredient list for your skin type.
For instance, if you have dry skin, you need a really rich formula. However, if you have acne-prone or oily skin, a gel formula will be your best friend. (DON’T skip moisturizer if you have oily skin! Dry skin causes more oil formation and build up.)
My pick – Clinique Moisture Surge Thirst Relief & Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel.
FACE OIL
You can skip this step during the day.
Oil needs to go last because it will create a protective barrier on your skin and lock in water.
My picks are
- Bio Oil since it does so much more than give hydration. It helps with hyperpigmentation and dehydrated skin.
- GlamGlow’s Star Potion
Just remember to massage it in really well.
Another favourite is the 24K Gold Elixir Oil by Herbalicious.
SPF
NEVER EVER skip this step during the day time – summer, winter or hail.
Also, apply it at the very end of your morning routine.
Now, you can proceed to cake your face. Although, after you’re down this routine, you’ll probably be stepping out au naturel!
PS: I also do a night mask twice a week. For that extra bit of hydration. The Laneige Water Sleeping Mask has my heart.
