How to get soft and smooth hands

Hands are the most vital part of our body.  Our skin is exposed to harsh elements on a daily basis, from sun and wind to harsh chemicals. Without proper care, hands tend to get rough and age prematurely. While there could be several factors leading to dry hands—cold weather, excessive sun exposure, exposure to harmful chemicals, use of soap bars. Especially during the lock down time we tend to wash our hands on regular intervals,  that can lead to dryness and roughness in our hands.

That said, there are several ways to keep your thirsty skin hydrated, no matter the cause.

To combat dry hands, try some of the following remedies:

Develop a daily routine- I know it’s difficult. Its better said than done, But one has to care for their hands and have routine about it the way you have, for your face

Moisturize-Finding the right lotion is key to protecting your hands from sun and harsh soaps. Also moisturize it as soon as you wash them, so that your hands remain hydrated and not drained of moisturizer totally

Invest in gloves-Doing dishes can do terrible things to your skin, so get some good rubber gloves to use while cleaning and handling soaps and chemicals.

Exfoliate- Exfoliate your hands with a hand- or body scrub twice a week.  That is the key for a softer skin. It removes dull skin and instantly makes the skin appear brighter and smoother.

Sun screen- Apply sun-screen to your hands and arms every morning.

Let share with you some homemade remedies or mixes that you can apply to your hands

soft-hands-3-1
  • Overnight Vaseline treatment- Slather your hand at night with some petroleum-based moisturizer, such as Vaseline.  After, cover your hands with a pair of soft gloves or socks. Trapping the moisturizer will help it absorb more fully into your skin, and you’ll wake up with baby-smooth hands.
  • Lemon + honey mask- Lemon contains citric acid, which gently lightens dark spots and discoloration on skin. Honey contains antioxidants which slow down ageing. And baking soda exfoliates dead skin, revealing new clear skin cells. Make a paste with two teaspoons each of lemon juice, baking soda and honey, and apply it onto your hands. Leave it on for 10 minutes, and wash off with warm water.
  • Coconut oil+ Sugar scrub- Put one table spoon  of sugar in the palm of your hand and slowly pour a tablespoon of coconut oil or any other  body oil that you use . With your other palm, rub the two together for about 30 seconds. Wash off with warm water and pat dry.  This moisturises and hydrates skin cells as well as exfoliate, sloughing off rough old, dead cells.
  • Yoghurt Mixed with Some Multani Mitti- Applying this mixture on the hands  not only helps in exfoliating, but helps in lightening the skin, bringing back its wonderful shine. Using it for about 15 minutes and washing it off daily is a good practice.
