NYX Cosmetics is one of the leading drugstore brands in the world. And I almost choked on my own saliva when I found out they were launching in India back in 2016. I remember wishlisting all my favourite colours from the Full Throttle Lipstick range (sadly, they didn’t launch the full range) and constantly waking up from sleep to check out as soon as the floodgates opened.
But this article isn’t about the lipsticks. This is about the infamous NYX Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer, which has been called a dupe of the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. Loved by beauty addicts and experts alike, the Angel Veil Primer has gained holy grail status in a lot of vanities- including mine. Okay maybe not HOLY GRAIL, but I find myself reaching for this primer very often.
NYX ANGEL VEIL DESCRIPTION
This super silky, light and fresh formula creates a comfortable cushion on your skin to enhance makeup application. The incredible formula creates a smooth uniform canvas that minimizes shine and makes application flawless. Your skin will feel like it has been touched by an angel.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The primer comes in a plastic tube- white with a pink top, and is pretty travel friendly. Uncapping the primer reveals a protection seal, a BIG PLUS in my book (I’m a germaphobe!) The primer is white and feels like room temperature butter (no joke). Application on the face is super smooth and silky.

The primer covers up pores pretty decently, and isn’t problematic to work with. Some people claim that it leaves a white cast, but that didn’t happen for me possibly because I’m on the lighter side of the shade spectrum. But the white cast does not interfere with your foundation or make you look ghost-like.
Foundation application is flawless, and my makeup stayed budge free for almost 5 hours. People will oily skin might feel shine coming through after a few hours, which might need to be retouched. But dry and combination skin tones are set. It doesn’t claim to be a mattifying primer, so it won’t dry your face out. But if you want to look dewy, use a dewy foundation- don’t bank on the primer!
PROS:
- Lightweight
- Smooth Application
- Pore Minimizing
- Water based, so works well for people who are allergic to silicones
- Satin matte finish
- Works well with foundations
- No harsh scent
CONS:
- Might not work with oilier skin types
- Might leave a white cast
- Slightly expensive for a drugstore brand
