Met Gala is one of the biggest and reputed fashion events of the year. The Met Gala 2019, which marks the 71st anniversary, will be co-chaired by Lady Gaga, Alessandro Michele, Harry Styles and Serena Williams. Each year event celebrates the theme of that year’s Costume Institute exhibition, and the exhibition sets the tone for the formal dress of the night since guests are expected to choose their fashion to match the theme of the exhibit. This year, the museum announced its major Costume Institute exhibition for 2019: “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” The show will be unveiled at the annual gala party on 6 May, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute on the theme: “Fashion is the most overt and enduring conduit of the camp aesthetic. Effectively illustrating Sontag’s Notes on ‘Camp’, the exhibition will advance the creative and critical dialogue about the ongoing and ever-evolving impact of camp on fashion.”
In its modern incarnation, the most famous faces from the realms of fashion, film, music and art come together to celebrate the grand opening of its latest exhibition. The exhibition will feature approx 175 objects, including fashion, sculptures and paintings, dating from the 17th century to the present. The dress code for the evening coincides with the theme of the exhibition, which will be, “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” Expect celebrities accompanied by designers to turn up in the most extravagant creations that best interpret the theme.
