Let’s talk foundation. Again. And this time, one foundation that had been doing the rounds for quite a bit, and there was significant hype around it. We’re talking about the Maybelline New York Superstay 24 Hour Full Coverage Foundation.
Let’s be clear about one thing first. The foundation says 24 hour wear, but what it actually means is, UP TO 24 hours. Because let’s be honest- no one in their right mind is wearing a foundation for 24 hours (unless ofcourse they decide to sleep with their make up on)
CLAIM: Maybelline Super Stay® Full Coverage Foundation Makeup delivers 24-hour wear for concentrated coverage and a flawless finish that doesn’t fade or shift all day.
Be your own professional makeup artist with Maybelline’s full coverage 24H foundation. Saturated color pigments provide an ultra-transforming effect in this long-lasting foundation. The lightweight, yet high-impact coverage formula glides onto the skin for a flawless makeup finish that lasts all day. Oil free. Doesn’t clog pores. Dermatologist tested.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: I received my Superstay foundation thanks to the goodwill of this stunner I know on Instagram (love you, Tuba xx) She was generous enough to send me the foundation she wasn’t using, which was in the shade – Nude Beige.
The foundation comes in a glass bottle (points for that!), topped off with a white plastic cap and a pump! (yaaas, Maybelline!) Now, I wear a lot of beige foundations, but this one WAS. SO. LIGHT. Sure, it oxidized and all that and looked good on my skin, but damn. I looked like Moriticia Addams in the first swatch!
After it oxidized (it doesn’t have significant oxidation), the foundation made me look human again. It went on smoothly and I didn’t struggle to blend it out. Although if your skin is on the drier side, you might want to moisturize as it tends to cling onto dry patches. This is a matte foundation after all. It is said to be oil free, which you might think was a plus, but it does nothing for oily skin – it starts to move after 5-6 hours and requires touch up, so make sure you’re using a good primer to combat that.
Even though the foundation gives you pretty rad coverage, it starts to accentuate fine lines over a period of time. The finish is slightly tacky and definitely warrants a powder setting, which helps improve how long it lasts throughout the day. (But in no world is it 24 hour wearing)
I’ve read multiple reviews of this foundation, and it’s one of those products that people either obsess over or toss it into the trash. I’m on the fence about it. I’m not always reaching for it, but I do like to wear it when I have a casual 2-3 hour day out.
