Miss India or Femina Miss India is a national beauty pageant in India that annually selects representatives to compete in Miss World. It is organised by Femina, a women’s magazine published by The Times Group. The first ever Femina Miss India pageant was held in year 1964. In Earlier days, Femina Miss India used to crown three contestants, the winner used to represent India at Miss Universe and the runners-up were sent to Miss Asia Pacific and International Teen Princess. Later the second runner up represents India at Miss Teenage Intercontinental. Later, after acquiring the rights to send India’s representatives to Miss World, Femina Miss India used to select three winners who were then sent to Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Asia Pacific International pageants, respectively.
The 53rd edition of the Femina Miss India beauty pageant was held on 9 April 2016 in Mumbai. The event took place at Sahara Star Hotel, Mumbai. It was a colorful and elegant event with the presence of so many known celebs.
The event was hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar and Manish Paul, the event saw brilliant performances by Varun Dhawan, Tiger Shroff, Shahid Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sunidhi Chauhan, and rapper Badshah. Tennis ace Sania Mirza, producer Ekta Kapoor, fashion designers Manish Malhotra and Shane Peacock, Sanjay Dutt, Arjoon Kapoor, Amy Jackson, director Kabir Khan, and Miss World 2015 Mireia Lalaguna juudged the competition to come to a final decision.
The jury decided on top three Miss India titles and the lovely task of announcement fell on none other that Badshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan. Prior to that, SRK shook leg with top 5 finalists on the song ‘Jabra’ from his upcoming movie Fan.
The top five finalists were Pankhuri Gidwani, Navpreet Kaur, Priyadarshini Chatterjee, Roshmitha Harimurthy and Sushruthi Krishna.
And the top three winners are here. Miss India 2015 Aditi Arya crowned Priyadarshini Chatterjee as the winner of Femina Miss India 2016. Sushruthi Krishna is Femina Miss India 2016 runner-up, Pankhuri Gidwani announced as the second runner-up.
Twenty-one finalists were selected who competed at the finals of Femina Miss India 2016 for the titles of Miss India World 2016, Miss India Supranational 2016 and Miss India Grand International 2016. Miss India 2016 Priyadarshini will represent India at the global platform Miss World 2016; first runner-up Sushruthi Krishna will participate at Miss International 2016, while the second runner-up. Priyadarshini will now represent India at Miss World pagent.
Dia Mirza, who was the winner of Miss India 2000, gets felicitated with Eternal beauty award just before the crowning ceremony. Also chutki aka Gaurav Gera is back on stage and this time she teaches the top five finalists how to de-stress.
The first performance of the evening is by none other than talented Tiger Shroff, followed by many other bollywood stars like Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez and many more. Varun Dhawan performed on his some of hit numbers, including “Sun Saathiya,” “Bezubaan” and “Ishq Wala Love” songs. Varun also announced the top five finalists of the Miss India 2016.
Shahid Kapoor introduces the judges of the evening and they are director Kabir Khan, designer Shane Peacock, Yami Gautam, Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Ekta Kapoor, Tennis star Sania Mirza, Amy Jackson and fashion designer Manish Malhotra.
Miss India 2015 Aditi Arya crowned her successor on saturday night at the glamorous grand finale of beauty pageant Femina Miss India 2016.
Internet sensation Taher Shah, who released his latest song “Angel,” is also present at the event.
