Let’s be real for a minute. Not all of us can afford to go to high end spas and get facials, treatments and the fancy ass facials done. It’s just not happening. So for those of us who don’t have the coin to let loose into the ocean, we depend rather heavily on DIY. ~Organic Beauty~ you see.

One particular treatment that runs wild is a peel, which results in gorgeous skin. Like the kind you wished you woke up with. So all your #IWokeUpLikeThis posts on Instagram were really true, and not heavily face tuned.

BUT WHAT IS A PEEL EXACTLY?

Well, to answer your question, a peel, or a chemical peel, is a procedure that removes damaged skin cells. As a result, revealing healthier skin underneath. There are different types of peels, of course – light, medium, deep – depending on what it is that you’re looking for.

There are a number of reasons people get chemical peels. Peels normally include treatments for

  • wrinkles and fine lines
  • sun damage
  • acne scars
  • hyperpigmentation
  • scars
  • melasma
  • uneven skin tone or redness

But, of course, as you already can tell, they can be pretty pricey. So what do the poor folks at home do? WE DIY!

DIY PEEL – FOR THAT SPA LIKE FEELING AT HOME
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
  • ½ Medium Tomato
  • 1 Lime
WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Cut an ‘X’ on the top of a washed tomato, and dunk it in warm water
  • Peel off the skin of the tomato
  • Toss it into a blender
  • Add in an entire lime into the blender (squeeze out the juice, not dunk the lime itself)
  • Blend, blend, blend
  • Apply on your face, and leave it on for 15 minutes
  • Wash it off, and follow up with moisturizer

You can also refrigerate the DIY peel mixture. And remember, PATCH TEST FIRST!

WHY IT WORKS

Tomatoes are abundant in vitamins B6, K, C, E and A – these reduce pores and regenerate your skin. They also restore the pH of your skin. Moreover, they contain salicylic acid – an ingredient used in the treatment of breakouts.

And lime, well, loads of vitamin C. Brightens skin, helps in pigmentation, and much more.

So, skip losing out on the big bucks, although it won’t hurt to treat yourself to a spa treatment every once in a while – you deserve it!
