2019 Critics Choice Awards: Hollywood’s finest descending evenings
Awards season is fully on the swing, with Hollywood’s finest celebrities descending on Santa Monica for 2019 Critics Choice Awards on Sunday evening. The Broadcast Film Critics Association and Broadcast Television Journalists Association bestowed their annual Critics’ Choice Awards, honouring achievement in movies and TV over the past year. Though this event was not as buzzy or hyped as the Golden Globes 2019, the Critics’ Choice Awards are known to offer some pretty substantial clues about who might win big at the Oscars.
After the fairytale dresses and classic Hollywood glamour of last week’s Golden Globes, many attendees opted for their class in crisp, white gowns and polished pantsuits. Lady Gaga, kept things simple this time around with a strapless pale peach Calvin Klein gown and short train. Emmy Rossum turned heads in a plunging burgundy Ralph Lauren gown, while Amy Adams stunned in a blue long-sleeved dress paired with emerald green earrings. “Crazy Rich Asians’ star Gemma Chan, who lit up the awards in a voluminous custom floral-print dress, and Charlize Theron, whose breathtaking metallic Givenchy dress with two-toned skirt shimmered as she walked the blue carpet.
Alfonso Cuarón’s black-and-white family drama Roma was named Best Picture, while Christian Bale picked up two acting honors for his portrayal of former Vice President Dick Cheney in Vice and a tie meant both Glenn Close and Lady Gaga went home with Best Actress honors. Amy Adams and Patricia Arquette embraced one another as they both won Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made For Television for their respective roles in Sharp Objects and Escape at Dannemora.
